Thirty Second Devotions

Be A Desciple 7/3/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 03, 2008 19:31

Devotional
According to Webster's dictonary, the word desciple means one who accepts and helps to spread the teachings of another. You can not be a true desciple of Jesus without knowing the Word of God. You can't teach someone else what you do not know.

Scripture Reference
John 8:31
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

Action Point
Spend time in the Word daily. Share what you have learned with others. Jesus told His desciples to go and make desciples of all nations. It all starts with you.

Test Yourselves 7/2/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 02, 2008 19:23

Devotional
Many people are coerced into making confessions of faith. They say the words, but they don't mean it. They acknowledged Jesus in their minds, but their hearts are still set on the things of this world. We need to examine ourselves. Do you know for sure that Jesus is living in you?

Scripture Reference
2nd Corinthians  13:5
Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?--unless indeed you are disqualified.

Action Point
Examine yourself. Have you received Jesus in your heart? Can you say with absolute certainty that you have given your life to Jesus? If you have never received Jesus in your heart, you have not received the free gift of salvation.

Who Do You See 7/1/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 01, 2008 18:42

Devotional
I remember when my children were little. People would always say he has his fathers eyes, or he has his mothers nose. As they got older, people would comment that they could see their father or mother in them. When we see Jesus, we see the Father. When people look at us, they should see Jesus.

Scripture Reference
John 14:9
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

Action Point
Who do people see when they look at you? Do they see Jesus, or do they see someone else? If Jesus is in us, then people should be able to look at us and say he has his Father's heart.

God's Art Show 6/30/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 30, 2008 19:32

Devotional
Have you ever found yourself looking up and gazing at the stars? Have you ever stopped and watched an inch worm crawl on a leaf? God's splendor is all around us. We see His majesty in everything from the ants to the stars in the sky.

Scripture Reference
Psalm 145:5
I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, And on Your wondrous works.

Action Point
Next time you look up at the stars, think of the one who made them. Next time you see a butterfly, think of the hand that painted the wings. Take time today to enjoy His creations. Take time to praise Him for it.

Mirror 6/29/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 29, 2008 20:52

Devotional
I was in the recording studio working on a new CD. As the recording played back what had been recorded, I realized I had a lot of work to do. Every flaw was exposed. I couldn't hide from it. The Word of God is the same way. If we look into it, we will see that we all have a lot of work to do.

Scripture Reference
James 1:23
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;

Action Point
We need to read the Word of God, and allow it to change our lives. If we just read the Word of God, and do nothing to change our lives, then we are not any better then when we started.

Growing Up 6/28/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 28, 2008 18:45

Devotional
When I first became a Christian, I knew very little about the Bible, or about Christianity. I remember being asked to lead in prayer one night at a gospel singing. I hardly knew what to say. We need to mature in our faith. Who would have known 7 years ago that this same man would be preaching, and leading others in the faith.

Scripture Reference
1st Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Action Point
When a child does not mature, a doctor will ask why. As Christians, we need to make sure that we are maturing in the faith. Going to church, and reading the Bible are just part of the growth process. We also need to grow closer to God.

Trust and Obey 6/27/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 27, 2008 19:00

Devotional
Have you ever noticed what happens when you run from God? Like Jonah, we wind up sinking lower and lower. We see that Jonah fled to Tarshish, then went down to Joppa, then went down in the ship. A few verses later, we see that Jonah went down in the lowest part of the ship, and eventually went down into the belly of a big fish.

Scripture Reference
Jonah 1:3
But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

Action Point

Don't run from God. If God is calling you into the ministry, heed His call. Trust and Obey, for there is no other way. To be happy in Jesus, only trust and obey.

Jesus Wept 6/26/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 26, 2008 19:26

Devotional
The shortest verse in the Bible, speaks volumes to us today. We see in these two words, the humanity of Jesus. He felt the same feelings, and shed tears just like you and I. John 1:14 says And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Scripture Reference
John 11:35
Jesus wept.

Action Point
He knows what you are going through right now. He felt sorrow, pain, love, and joy. He has been tempted, and He has been tested. Remember, you don't have to go through the trials of life alone. Jesus wept. He is a compassionate, and loving God. Full of grace and truth.

Help Wanted 6/25/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 25, 2008 19:21

Devotional
When a shop owner needs help, he usually puts out a help wanted sign. When he finds the helper, the owner asks the person to come in and work in the shop. When we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, our hearts are opened and the Holy Spirit comes in and starts working in us.

Scripture Reference
John 14:16
"And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever--

Action Point
Is your help wanted sign out? Are you seeking a helper? The moment you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit will start working in you. If you are a Christian already, all you need to do is call on the Holy Spirit. He is abiding in you.

Mountains and Valleys 6/24/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 24, 2008 20:06

Devotional
We all go through seasons in our lives. We have peaks and valleys that we all go through. The fact remains, that there can not be a mountain without a valley. From the top of the mountain, you can look at where you have been. From the valleys, you can look at where you are heading.

Scripture Reference
Ecclesiastes 3:1
To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:

Action Point
Give thanks for the valleys in your life. Without the valleys, you would not know what it feels like to be on the mountain. God may have a reason for the season that you are going through.
