Thirty Second Devotions

Discernment 3/14/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | March 14, 2010 19:39

Devotional
As Christians, we need to put any teachings to the test. We need to ask, who does it glorify. Many times people will use God's name, but in the end, they are the only ones who are being glorified. Consider the source. Is it of God, or is it of men.

Scripture Reference
Malachi 3:18
Then you shall again discern
Between the righteous and the wicked,
Between one who serves God
And one who does not serve Him.

Action Point
Don't just trust in the words of men. Put them to the test. Do they line up with what the Bible says? Do they glorify God or Men? Ask the questions, and put your trust in the Word of God.

Reaching Out 3/13/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | March 13, 2010 18:43

Devotional
As Christians, we each have our own mission field. There are people that we meet every day that don't know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. These are the people that Paul says we need to reach with the good news. We are to bring the gospel to where the people are. We need to take it outside the four walls of the sanctuary, and out into the streets.
Scripture Reference
Romans 15:20
And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man's foundation,
Action Point
As Christians, our aim should be to reach out to a lost and dying world. The gospel is already being preached in the churches. Our aim should be to bring the message to the people, and bring the people into His church.

Questioning God 3/12/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | March 12, 2010 22:34

Devotional
Who are we to question God? After a long conversation with the LORD, Job had the answer to this question. God is sovereign, and we can't comprehend His ways. We just need to trust in His infinite wisdom.
Scripture Reference
Job 42:3
You asked, 'Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?'
Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,
Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
Action Point
When trying times come, put your trust in God. Let Him have control over the situations. Look to Him for the answers. He may have something greater in store for you.

Encouraging Words 3/11/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | March 11, 2010 19:43

Devotional
There is power in the words we speak. Often time it's just a few words that make the biggest impact in the lives of others. A kind word can brighten someones day. A word of encouragement can make a lasting impression, and a word spoken in love can make an eternal difference.

Scripture Reference
Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

Action Point
Choose your words carefully. People are listening to what you are saying. Let your words bring glory to God, and build up those people around you.

Spotless 3/10/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | March 10, 2010 19:39

Devotional
When my wife knows we have company coming, she makes sure the house looks perfect. She tries to make sure every spot is cleaned, and every thing is in its place. In the same way, we need to be ready when Jesus comes. We need to have our spiritual house in order, and be washed white as snow by the blood of the Lamb.

Scripture Reference
2nd Peter 3:14
Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;

Action Point
Will you be ready when Jesus comes? Will your spiritual house be in order? Make sure you are ready when He comes. Let the blood of Jesus cleanse you of your sin, and be clothed in His righteousness.

Devotional
Many people through the centuries have asked what the will of God is for their life. No matter what ministry, or what capcity He has set before you, the answer stll remains the same. All you have to do is search the scriptures. You are to do what is just, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.

A New Creation 3/8/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | March 08, 2010 19:57

Devotional
As Christians, we can put our past behind us and look forward to a brand new future. The person that once filled these shoes is dead and gone, and a new person stands as a testimony of what God has done. When you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior you become His new creation, created in His likeness.
Scripture Reference
2nd Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Action Point
Tell others about the change that He made in you, and let your life be a living testimony of what God has done.

No Small Parts 3/7/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | March 07, 2010 20:06

Devotional
Growing up, I was involved in community theater. They would always say, there is no such thing as a small part. Each actor, singer, stage hand, light designer, and even the person at the ticket booth had an important role in the production, and each were equally important. We all have an important role in the body of Christ as well. There are no small parts in the church. Each and every person is important, and valued.
Scripture Reference
1st Corinthians 12:22-23
No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty,
Action Point
Do your part in the body of Christ. Let the Lord lead you in how, and where you serve. Remember that we all have a part in God's plan.

An Open Door 3/6/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | March 06, 2010 21:13

Devotional
To those who call on the name of Jesus, He will open the door for us to come into His kingdom. We always have an open invitation. The question is will we receive it. When we receive it, the door will be opened and no one can shut it. If we are in Christ, our salvation is secure.
Scripture Reference
Revelation 3:8
"I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.

Action Point
Accept the invitation. Just like a good neighbor, the door is always open, and He is always happy to hear from you.
