Gentle Reminders (Thirty Second Devotional)

wordinsong | May 17, 2012 21:49

Devotional
My wife and I were visiting some friends one day, she was telling us about of a rainbow that she had seen, and of the animals that had been so plentiful around their home. As we talked I thought of how wonderful it is to know that God still gives us reminders of His promises each day.

Scripture Reference
Genesis 9:16
"The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth."

Action Point
God has given us reminders of His promises, love, and provision. As you look around today, see what God is trying to say to you, and give Him the glory for the gentle reminders.

Who Will You Follow (Thirty Second Devotional)

wordinsong | May 16, 2012 22:02

Devotional
As in the day's of Elijah, there are many people today who say they follow the Lord and yet have no real idea what it means to follow Him. They like what the gospel message has to say, yet they love what the world has to offer. The time has come for them to make a decision. If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.
Scripture Reference
1st Kings 18:21
And Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him." But the people answered him not a word.
Action Point
Every time we share the gospel message, we should always give people an opportunity for people to respond. They need to decide who they are going to follow.

Many Tears (Thirty Second Devotional)

wordinsong | May 15, 2012 21:50

Devotional
Often times great love is expressed by tears of joy or sorrow. Paul had a heart for the people of the Corinthian church, and it hurt him to see the church being led astray by false teachers. Like a parent He had great compassion for them and he wrote to them to let them know how much he loved them and his desire for them to turn back to the Lord.
Scripture Reference
2nd Corinthians 2:4
For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you.
Action Point
As we seek to minister to people who have gone astray we need to start by letting them see our love and compassion towards them.

Personal Revival (Thirty Second Devotional)

wordinsong | May 14, 2012 21:20

Devotional
As Christians, sometimes we find ourselves in need of a revival in our own lives. Like Israel, sometimes we need to stop and take a look at where we are and where we need to be. There are many things that can cause us to become distant from the Lord, but the fact remains that as His children He will never leave us. If we will humble ourselves and seek the Lord He will bring about a change in our lives and revive us.
Scripture Reference
Hosea 14:7
Those who dwell under his shadow shall return; They shall be revived like grain, And grow like a vine. Their scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon.
Action Point
If you feel like you are in need of revival, seek the Lord and ask Him to bring about the change that is needed in your life. Revival will come if we start by seeking the Lord.

Who Are You In Christ Pt 7 (Thirty Second Devotional)

wordinsong | May 13, 2012 21:57

Devotional
In Christ Jesus we are so many things, but the greatest of all is that He gives us victory. When ever we face the adversary, we can have confidence in knowing that we have the power to overcome. This doesn't mean that we will never face obstacles, nor does it mean that we will always prevail. The victory is over sin and death, and is only available through Jesus Christ.
Scripture Reference
1st Corinthians 15:57
But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Action Point
Remember that in Christ Jesus the victory has already been won through the cross.

Who Are You In Christ Pt 6 (Thirty Second Devotional)

wordinsong | May 11, 2012 21:19

Devotional
In Christ, we are made righteous; not by our own works or deeds, but by the blood of the Lamb. Romans 3:23 says "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."  Romans 3:10 says As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one;" The righteousness is not our own. It is only through Christ living within us and His blood that was shed that we can stand before the throne of God.
Scripture Reference
Romans 5:19
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous.
Action Point
Remember that it is not our righteousness that will get us into heaven. It is only through His righteousness that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Who Are You In Christ Pt 5 (Thirty Second Devotional)

wordinsong | May 10, 2012 20:24

Devotional
In Christ, we are light bearers. Like John we are not the Light, but have been called to bear witness of that Light. We do not do it in our own power or authority, but by His power and authority. As we tell others about Jesus we are reflecting the Light that has shown upon us and we are now taking that Light to a lost and dying world.
Scripture Reference
John 1:7-8
This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
Action Point
Be active in telling others about Jesus Christ. Remember that we are not called to stay and wait for them to come to us, but to go and tell the world about Jesus.

Who Are You In Christ Pt 4 (Thirty Second Devotional)

wordinsong | May 09, 2012 21:46

Devotional
In Christ we are transformed. We are not the same. We are born again according to John 3:3 and we are a new creation according to 2nd Corinthians 5:17. Though we may look the same on the outside, there is something that changes on the inside. It's like having a heart transplant without going through the surgery. When your heart has changed, the rest of your life will follow.
Scripture Reference
2nd Corinthians 3:18
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Action Points
Tell people about the change that Jesus has made in your life. Let your life be a living testimony to what Jesus can do.

Who Are You In Christ Pt 3 (Thirty Second Devotional)

wordinsong | May 08, 2012 21:02

Devotional
As His children we are not only heirs, but we are joint heirs with Christ. In this world we may face persecution because of our faith in Him, but we also have the promise of future glory with Christ Jesus in heaven. The kingdom of God is ours through the blood of the Lamb. It was given to us the moment we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Scripture Reference
Romans 8:16-17
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
Action Point
Isn't it wonderful to know that we have such a wonderful inheritance? Rest in the promises of God and know that we are His and that we have been given the kingdom as heirs.

Who Aer You In Christ Pt 2 (Thirty Second Devotional)

wordinsong | May 07, 2012 21:52

Devotional
In Christ, we are adopted into the family of God. We are not born into the family, but are adopted by the Father who chose us as His children. It is because of His love for us and the blood of Jesus Christ that we are able to go boldly before the throne of God. The word "Abba" describes an intimate relationship like a child calling on their dad. It is this same type of a relationship that we can have with the Father.
Scripture Reference
Romans 8:15
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."
Action Point
Take time each day to spend quality time with the Father. Remember that as His children we can go boldly before His throne of God.
