Thirty Second Devotions

Do What Is Right 12/1/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | December 01, 2008 19:58

Devotional
Where would we be today if Joseph had done what the law allowed. He could have had Mary put to death. Joseph however did what was right in the sight of God instead of what was right in the sight of men.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 1:19
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.

Action Point
We need to do what is right in the sight of God. It may not always be the popular thing, but it is the right thing.

Virgin Birth 11/30/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | November 30, 2008 18:50

Devotional
Joseph was not the father of our Lord. The only way that Jesus could be without sin, is if He was born of a virgin. Romans 5:12 tells us "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned--" He is the Son of God, not of a man.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 1:18
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

Action Point
The virgin birth is the only way Jesus could be born without sin. To deny the virgin birth would be to deny the deity of Jesus. Believe in the virgin birth. Believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

The First Christmas Tree 11/29/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | November 29, 2008 18:34

Devotional
The book of Matthew starts out with the first Christmas tree. Though there are several tarnished ornaments, we see at the top of the tree, the perfect Light of the world. The Lamb without spot or blemish.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 1:1
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:

Action Point

There is only one who is, or ever will be perfect enough to top the greatest Christmas tree ever. He is Jesus. No matter how hard we try, we can never hide our imperfections. Let Jesus be the light of your Christmas tree.

Season of Miracles 11/28/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | November 28, 2008 19:23

Devotional
Just as with Elizabeth, with God nothing will be impossible. During the Christmas season, miracles happen. People start giving, and we see the love of God demonstrated in many ways. God works through even the most unlikely people.

Scripture Reference
Luke 1:37
"For with God nothing will be impossible."

Action Point
During this Christmas season, let God work through you. Be a willing vessel that God can use. "For with God nothing will be impossible."

No Other Name 11/27/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | November 27, 2008 19:04

Devotional
The angel proclaimed "and shall call His name Jesus." The angel didn't just tell Mary of the miraculous birth, but made known that His name was the name above all names.

Scripture Reference
Luke 1:31
"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.

Action Point
There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. That name is Jesus. Trust Jesus as your Lord and Savior today.

Divine Appointment 11/26/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | November 26, 2008 19:10

Devotional
God sent an angel with a message for Mary. God named the time and the place. It had nothing to do with Mary or her plans. It was all in God's plan, predetermined and planned down to the finest detail.

Scripture Reference
Luke 1:26-27
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.

Action Point

We need to step back, and know that God is in control. Often times when unexpected things happen, we look at it as an inconvenience, when it could be a divine appointment.

Look From The Past 11/25/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | November 25, 2008 19:39

Devotional
Dr. Luke, being an educated man, set forth to write an orderly account of those things which had taken place. He not only tells of Jesus birth, but goes back in time to tell of the events leading up to that day.

Scripture Reference
Luke 1:3
it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus,

Action Point
It is important to have a full knowledge and understanding of Scripture. The past gives credibility to the present, and the future. As you study the Old Testament it will open your eyes to what is written in the New Testament.

Leap For Joy 11/24/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | November 24, 2008 18:48

Devotional
This is the only mention of Jesus birth in the Gospel of Mark. Mark is quoting Isaiah 40:3. We also see a reference in Luke 2:41 when John leaped in Elizabeth's womb. John was sent to prepare the way.

Scripture Reference
Mark 1:2-3
As it is written in the Prophets:   "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You." "The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
'Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.' "

Action Point
We need to be a modern day John. We need to prepare the way for the Lord. We need to plant the seed and water it. God will do the rest.

He Is God With Us 11/23/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | November 23, 2008 17:25

Devotional
Isaiah prophesied of the virgin birth, and even told us who the child was. Immanuel is translated God with us. When Jesus said I Am, He was proclaiming that He is God (the Son). He is Immanuel.

Scripture Reference
Isaiah 7:14
"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Action Point
Put your trust in Jesus. He is God with us. He was born of a virgin just as Isaiah had prophesied many year earlier.

A Nazarene 11/22/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | November 22, 2008 18:48

Devotional
In Matthew 2:23 we see that "He shall be called a Nazarene." Again this is not a contradiction, but a confirmation. From Egypt, Jesus was brought to Nazareth as it was prophesied. It was also prophesied that He would be the deliverer.

Scripture Reference

Judges 13:5
"For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines."

Action Point
He is our Deliverer, and our Savior. The proof is in the prophesies, made in the Old Testament, and fulfilled in the New Testament. Place your trust in the one who saves and delivers. Place your trust in Jesus.
