Thirty Second Devotions

11/30/07 Devotional

Scripture
Matthew 1:18
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
Devotional
It is important to note here that Joseph is not the father of Jesus. Mary was still a virgin when Jesus was born.  He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. This was the only way that Jesus could be born without sin.
Action Point
Acknowledge that Jesus is Lord. He who knew no sin became sin for us.

11/28/07 Devotional

Scripture
Mark 1:2-3
As it is written in the Prophets:   "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You." "The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
'Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.' "
Devotional
This is the only mention of Jesus birth in the Gospel of Mark. Mark is quoting Isaiah 40:3. We also see a reference in Luke 2:41 when John leaped in Elizabeth's womb. John was sent to prepare the way.
Action Point
We need to be a modern day John. We need to prepare the way for the Lord. We need to plant the seed and water it. God will do the rest.

Scripture
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Devotional
Richard Thomas was asked the question in the movie The Christmas Box. What was the first gift of Christmas. The answer was a child. Jesus Christ. God gave us His only Son. No other gift could ever match the love that God gave us.
Action Point
God sent us the gift. All we have to do is receive it.

11/26/07 Devotional

wordinsong | November 26, 2007 20:20

Scripture
John 1:17
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Devotional
Under the law we were condemned, but Jesus came to fulfill the law. The laws had not changed, but how the law was administered was changed. We are still guilty of breaking the law, but the penalty has been paid for those who love the Lord.
Action Point
Receive the free gift of grace. Receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior

11/25/07 Devotional

Scripture
John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Devotional
In John 1:14 we see the birth of Jesus. We see that God came to earth in the form of man. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. He was fully man and fully God.
Action Point
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. God sent His Son to die for us. To pay the price we could not pay. The price has been paid. All we have to do is receive the free gift of salvation.

11/24/07 Devotional

wordinsong | November 24, 2007 15:18

Scripture
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Devotional
I want to spend the next weeks before Christmas looking at the Gospel accounts of Jesus coming. In the Gospel of John we don't see so much emphasis on the coming of Christ. Instead we see more the reason that He came. Today we start at the beginning. John states simply one basic statement. Jesus was there in the beginning, Jesus was with God, and Jesus is God.

Action Point
Trust in the Lord your God.

11/23/07 Devotional

wordinsong | November 23, 2007 08:34

Scripture
Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. and His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Devotional
As we enter the Christmas season, we need to remember who Jesus is. Isaiah prophesied of the Savior and said "His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace". Who do you say that Jesus is this Christmas season?
Action Point
Make your relationship with Jesus personal. He is my Savior, my Prince of Peace, my God.

11/22/07 Devotional

wordinsong | November 22, 2007 06:37

Scripture
1st Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Devotional
We need to remember this Thanksgiving to give thanks to God for all that He has done. Thanksgiving is not just about family and the turkey dinners. Lets keep our eyes on the real meaning.

Action Point
Remember to give thanks to God.

11/21/07 Devotional

wordinsong | November 21, 2007 04:53

Scripture
2nd Timothy 4:5
But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Devotional
Listen to what Paul was speaking to Timothy. Sometimes in ministry you will endure afflictions. Paul is telling Timothy to keep on doing what God has called him to do.
Action Point
In all situations, we need to do the work of an evangelist. Share what God has done for you.
