Thirty Second Devotions

12/29/08 Devotional Journey To The Cross...

wordinsong | February 29, 2008 22:40

Scripture
John 18:4-5
Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, "Whom are you seeking?" They answered Him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them, "I am He." And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them.

Devotional
Whom are you seeking? This was the question Jesus asked. Some people are seeking a teacher. Some are seeking a religious leader. Some are seeking a miracle worker, and some are seeking a healer. We need to be seeking after the Savior. It is one thing to know about Jesus, but another to know Jesus. Judas knew about Jesus, but did not have a relationship with Him.

Action Point
Make it a priority in your life to have a relationship with Jesus. Get to know Him. Talk to Him, and spend time in the Word.

2/28/08 Devotional Journey To The Cross...

wordinsong | February 28, 2008 20:06

Scripture
Matthew 26:40-41
Then He came to the disciples and found them asleep, and said to Peter, "What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Devotional
We can learn a lot from this passage. Like the disciples, we as Christians are asleep. We find it easier to watch TV than to read our Bible. It's easier to stay in bed on Sunday morning than to get up and go to church. It's easier to talk to a friend on the phone, than to talk to God. Jesus says watch and pray. If we are to do battle with the Devil, we need to be prepared.

Action Point
Jesus says Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. Don't get caught sleeping. Wake up and put Jesus first in all you do.

2/27/08 Devotional Journey To The Cross...

wordinsong | February 27, 2008 19:59

Scripture
Matthew 26:39
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will."

Devotional
Jesus knew that he was headed to the cross. He was God, and He was also human. He felt the agony of knowing what was going to happen. Jesus however knew that it was not His will, but the will of the Father.

Action Point
We need to seek the Fathers will. If we are in His will, all else will fall into place. Not as I will, but as You will.

2/26/08 Devotional Journey To The Cross....

wordinsong | February 26, 2008 19:31

Scripture
Matthew 26:31-32
Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written:   'I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' "But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee."
Devotional
All of us have stumbled in our walk with the Lord at one time or another. Like the disciples, we find ourselves in situations where our faith is tested. Even though Jesus knew that the disciples would stumble, He was going to be waiting for them in Galilee after the resurrection.
Action Point
Even though we may stumble, Jesus is still waiting for us. He is faithful to us even when we are not faithful to Him. Come to Jesus. He is waiting for you.

2/25/08 Devotional Journey To The Cross....

wordinsong | February 25, 2008 18:38

Scripture
Matthew 26:21-22
Now as they were eating, He said, "Assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me." And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him, "Lord, is it I?"

Devotional
I truly believe that in the same circumstances, we would wonder the same thing. The heat was on, and they were in the fire. People were trying to kill Jesus. To be associated with Jesus meant that they would be persecuted and possibly killed. "Lord, is it I?"

Action Point
Search your hearts and ask yourself the question "Lord, is it I?"

2/24/08 Devotional Journey To The Cross 9

wordinsong | February 24, 2008 19:09

Scripture
Matthew 26:14-15
Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, "What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?" And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.

Devotional
This was quite a contrast to Mary, who had anointed Jesus with costly oil. Judas was willing to betray Jesus for a small price. It was greed that motivated Judas. Judas settled for what he could get. Mary was motivated by love, and she gave Jesus all she had.

Action Point
Let your love for Jesus motivate you.

2/23/08 Devotional Journey To The Cross 8

wordinsong | February 23, 2008 18:21

Scripture
Matthew 26:6-7
And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table.

Devotional
When Mary poured the costly oil on Jesus, it was more that just an act of worship. The oil would have cost about a years wages, however the cost of the oil was not important to Jesus. In verse 12 Jesus tells us "For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial.

Action Point
Worshiping Jesus should be our first priority. God isn't after our pocketbook. He is after our heart. Worship Him with all your heart.
