Thirty Second Devotions

Not My Will 4/09/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | April 19, 2008 19:46

Devotional
So many times we want things done our way. We want it, and we want it now... When we go to God in prayer, we need to realize that it is not our will that is important. Remember that God hears our prayers, but sometimes the answer is not the one we want.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 6:10
Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Action Point
As you pray, seek His will. Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, Mt 26:39b  "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will." God doesn't always answer yes. Sometimes it is no, or not yet.

The Name Of God 4/18/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | April 18, 2008 15:23

Devotional
Have you ever stopped to think of how holy the name of God is. The Jewish people avoid writing the name of God for fear that it might be defaced. The scribes held the name of God in such high esteem, that they had a special pen that they only used to write God's name. When we pray we are entering the Holiest of all places. He is Holy, Holy, Holy. Lord God almighty.
Scripture Reference
Matthew 6:9
"In this manner, therefore, pray:   Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

Action Point
Stop for a second, before the next time you pray. How are you going to approach your Father in heaven? Will you just casually say His name, or will you reverence His name?

Our Father 4/17/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | April 17, 2008 19:23

Devotional
We start out the Lord's prayer by acknowledging who God is. He is Our Father in heaven. We are not to take His name lightly. He is in authority, and He loves us. We are His children, and He is our Father. We are to reverence Him, and honor Him.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 6:9
"In this manner, therefore, pray:   Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

Action Point
Have you talked to your heavenly Father today? He is longing to hear from you.

Lords Prayer 4/16/08 Devotional

wordinsong | April 16, 2008 19:43

Devotional
Prayer is such a simple thing to do, yet many people do not understand prayer. Even the disciples asked Jesus; "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples." Jesus then gives them a model prayer. The next week or two we will be taking a look at this prayer.

Scripture Reference
Luke 11:1
Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples."

Action Point
The most important point to learn about prayer, is that we just need to do it. Take time today to talk to the Father.

True Beauty 4/15/08 Devotional

wordinsong | April 15, 2008 19:48

Devotional
We have all heard the expression, that beauty is only skin deep. True beauty is much more than outward appearance. I have known many people who look great on the outside, but were quite different on the inside. I also know people who don't look the greatest on the outside, but on the inside they are pure gold.

Scripture Reference
1st Peter 3:3-4
Do not let your adornment be merely outward--arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel-- rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

Action Point
Let the true beauty show. Let the love of Jesus show in all that you say and do.

Doers 4/14/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | April 14, 2008 18:07

Devotional
We all know people who go to church on Sunday, and act totally different the other six days. They are acting like saints on Sunday, but acting like sinners the rest of the week. It is one thing to hear the Word of God. It is another to act on it.

Scripture Reference
James 1:23-24
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

Action Point
We need to put our faith into action. Be doers of the Word. Let others see Jesus in you.

Free Gift of Grace 4/13/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | April 13, 2008 19:46

Devotional
One Sunday in children's church, I held out a dollar. I told the children that it was a free gift. Then I asked them what they had to do to receive it. They stared at me for a few minutes, then one child got up and gently took the dollar in his hand. All the child had to do was receive it.

Scripture Reference
2nd Timothy 2:1
You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Action Point

We can't earn it. We can't buy it. We don't deserve it. It is free to all who receive it. It is the free gift of grace that is in Christ Jesus. All you have to do is receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Question God 4/12/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | April 12, 2008 14:37

Devotional
Many people have asked the question, is it OK to question God. The answer is yes and no. Often times the way children learn is by asking questions. We can learn a lot by asking God questions. On the other hand, we should never question God's authority, or motives.

Scripture Reference
James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Action Point

I often times ask God to give mt the words as writing these devotions. Ask God to give you wisdom. Ask God to teach you something new today.

Transplanting 4/11/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | April 11, 2008 05:29

Devotional
As spring approaches, we need to start thinking about replanting. Often times we start plants in a small pot to get them started. If we leave them in the small pots, many of them will die for lack of nourishment from the soil. In order for them to flourish, we need to transplant them. We need to do the same with people who are just starting to learn about Jesus.
Scripture Reference
Mark 4:20
"But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred."
Action Point
We can't just stop at evangelism. We need to make disciples. Evangelism focuses on a decision. Discipleship is geared towards commitment. Go and spread the good news. Follow up by teaching people the Word of God.

Seek The Lost 4/10/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | April 10, 2008 05:13

Devotional
Why does the church seem to be more concerned about seeking the saved, and not the lost? Most churches seem to have things backwards. We do need to attend to the saved, but Jesus commanded us to seek the lost. If we are seeking the saved, we are just building our congregations. If we are seeking the lost, we are building His kingdom.
Scripture Reference
Matthew 18:12
"What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?

Action Point
Share your testimony with a lost person today. Tell them about Jesus and His saving grace. Build the kingdom of God.
