Thirty Second Devotions

Call Him 6/20/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 20, 2008 20:36

Devotional
Surveys show that the average Christian only spends less then ten minutes in prayer a week. When is the last time that you have poured your heart out to God? We need to make prayer a priority in our lives. Talk to Him, and listen to what He has to say to you.

Scripture Reference
Ezra 9:5
At the evening sacrifice I arose from my fasting; and having torn my garment and my robe, I fell on my knees and spread out my hands to the LORD my God.

Action Point
God is only a prayer away. You don't have to have a phone, and you don't need to find a signal. You can talk to Him any where, any time, and in any place. He is always there, and you will never get a bussy signal. Make prayer a priority in your life.

The Rainbow 6/19/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 19, 2008 19:33

Devotional
As I was talking with a friend today, she was telling my wife and I of a rainbow, and of the animals that had been so plentiful around their home. It is good to know that God still gives us reminders of His promises each day.

Scripture Reference
Genesis 9:16
"The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth."

Action Point
God has given us reminders of His promises, love, and provision. As you look around today, see what God is trying to say to you. "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. (Matthew 6:26)

Our Tongue 6/18/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 18, 2008 19:43

Devotional
The amazing thing about the tongue, is that it can do more good, and more evil than any part of the body. A harsh word spoken can devastate a person, while a kind word can build them up. We need to be careful how we use our own tongue.

Scripture Reference
James 3:2
For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

Action Point
We always need to be conscious of what comes out of our mouth. Are your words building people up? Remember that what you say is as important as how you act. Be a strong witness for Christ. Use your tongue to edify others, and to share the love of Jesus.

His Mighty Power 6/17/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 17, 2008 20:01

Devotional
Have you ever been in a spiritual battle? If you have, then you know that you can not fight a spiritual battle with weapons of this earth. You need to use spiritual weapons to fight in a spiritual battle. Prayer, and faith in God are our most effective weapon. Let God pull down the strongholds.

Scripture Reference
2nd Corinthians 10:4
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,

Action Point
Some of the greatest battles we will ever fight are going to be spiritual. We can not fight these battles on our own power. We need to call on God and the power of His might.

Don't Delay 6/16/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 16, 2008 19:17

Devotional
Friends, we do not know the day or the hour that the King is coming. For this reason, we must be ready. We will not have time to decide weather or not to follow Him. When He comes, those who believe will be gone in the twinkling of an eye. Those who did not believe will be left behind.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 24:44
"Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Action Point
J Vernon McGee put it this way. "You are either a saint, or you ain't." There is no middle ground. The decision to follow Jesus needs to be made this side of eternity. Don't wait another day. Tell others about Jesus. If you have never received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, today is the day. Don't wait.

Stand For Something 6/15/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 15, 2008 19:55

Devotional
We need to all be diligent in studying the Word of God. We need to stand firm in our faith, and love for Jesus. If you are not rooted and grounded in the Word, it is easy to be deceived. You have to stand for something, or you will fall for anything.

Scripture Reference
2nd Timothy 1:13
Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

Action Point
Spend time each day in the Word of God. When you hear, or read something pertaining to scriptures, take the time to study and make sure it is accurate.

Fed By The Master 6/14/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 14, 2008 19:16

Devotional
A man once stopped going to church because he claimed he couldn't remember the sermons. The preacher asked what he had for dinner for the last two weeks. Even though the man couldn't remember, the food nourished him. The Word of God is the same way. We may not remember what the sermon was about on Sunday morning, but the Word of God provided nourishment.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 6:26
"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Action Point
Are you being fed by the Master. If you read the Bible, and go to church, you will get nourishment. We have a heavenly Father who cares, and loves us. He feeds the birds of the air, and He will also feed you.

Heed The Call 6/13/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 13, 2008 20:25

Devotional
Many people have a problem with the idea that God already knows who will be saved, and who He has called. They argue that it doesn't make any difference what we do. The truth is that God knew even before I was saved, what His plan was for me. I don't know all that God has planned, but I know that every step has been ordained by Him.

Scripture Reference
Romans 8:30
Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

Action Point
God has saved you for a purpose. You may not know what it is, but God will make it apparent in time. If God is speaking to you right now, heed His call. Be obedient.

By The Hand 6/12/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 12, 2008 19:35

Devotional
The only way to come to Jesus is in Faith. Peter had faith when he stepped out of the boat, and onto the water. The invitation Jesus gave to Peter is the same invitation He gives to all. "Come." Draw near to Him, and receive Him.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 14:29-30
So He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!"

Action Point
Have you put your faith in Jesus? Even though Peter walked towards Jesus, he started to sink when the storms began to rage. It was only when he asked Jesus to save him, that Jesus took Peter by the hand.

Join Together 6/11/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | June 11, 2008 17:59

Devotional
It seems to me that many main line Christian denominations are separated by their differences. The fact is that we are all God's children. We need to focus instead on what things we do have in common. There is one body which is the church. If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then you are part of the church.

Scripture Reference

Ephesians 4:4-6
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Action Point
Focus on the main points. On the day of Pentecost, they all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication. They all came from different backgrounds, yet they came together as one. As the church, we need to join together as one body, with one purpose.
