The Word In Action 8/31/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | August 31, 2009 19:27
Devotional
It is not enough to just read the Bible, and hear the Word of God preached. We need to believe it, and let is penetrate our hearts. The Word needs to be a verb, and not a noun to us. We need to take action. We need to apply it, and live it in our daily lives.
Scripture Reference
Psalm 119:10-11
With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!
Action Point
Take time each day to read the Bible. As you read, ask God to show you how you can apply it to your life. As you start to view the Word as a verb, you will start to live it, instead of just reading it.

An Ongoing Process 8/30/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | August 30, 2009 18:39
Devotional
Have you ever read through a familiar passage of scripture, and noticed something new that you had never noticed before? The fact is, it was there all the time. The Lord is constantly revealing Himself, and as we read our Bibles, and minister to others, God will continue to teach us. It is an ongoing process.
Scripture Reference
Acts 26:16
'But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you.
Action Point
Be a witness to the things that you have seen, read, and heard, and then as God reveals more to you, go out and share it with others.

Like A Good Neighbor 8/29/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | August 29, 2009 19:11
Devotional
Being a neighbor is not about location, but a mindset. It's about who we are, and the way we treat others. As Christians, we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves. If you are a good neighbor, then everyone you come in contact with is your neighbor.
Scripture Reference
Luke 10:29
But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
Action Point
When is the last time you talked to your neighbors, or helped them out? We need to be like the good Samaritan. Let people around you see the Jesus in you. Don't just walk by and pretend you didn't see them. Stop, and minister to them.

Every Opportunity 8/28/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | August 28, 2009 19:44
Devotional
Though we are not saved through works, they should be evident in the life of every believer. When people see Christians helping one another, they see the love of God in action. Every time we meet someone on the street, we have an opportunity to let them see the Jesus in us. Sometimes just holding the door open, or a smile and a kind word can be an opportunity to share Jesus.
Scripture Reference
Galatians 6:10
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Action Point
Take every opportunity to be a witness for Jesus. Be a walking example of who Jesus is by showing your love for others.

A True Friend 8/27/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | August 27, 2009 19:11
Devotional
I have learned through life that people will let you down. It is said that you find out who your real friends are during tough times. It is easy to be around someone when things are going good. It takes a true friend to stand beside you when things aren't so good. There is one true friend who has always been there. That friend is Jesus.
Scripture Reference
Deuteronomy 31:6
"Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you."
Action Point
What a friend we have in Jesus. If you are under the blood of Jesus, then you are His friend. He will not leave you nor forsake you. Who wouldn't want a friend like that. Trust Him today.

We Have Joy 8/26/2008 Devotional
wordinsong | August 26, 2009 19:42
Devotional
As we sat tonight in our Bible study at church, I was reminded of the joy that we have in the Lord. As we studied, and started talking, the joy of the Lord filled the room. As we started focusing on Him, the cares of the world seemed to fade into the background.
Scripture Reference
Psalm 32:11
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous;
And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
Action Point
Happiness is what you get, but joy is something that you have. Let the joy of the Lord show in everything that you do.

Gods Plan 8/25/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | August 25, 2009 19:57
Devotional
Have you ever had a bad situation turn out to be the best thing that could have ever happened to you? Joseph was thrown into a pit, sold into slavery by his brothers, and was thrown into prison for something that he didn't do. His brothers meant to do evil, but God used the situation for good. Joseph in the end saved many people from starvation.
Scripture Reference
Genesis 50:20
"But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.
Action Point
Are you going through trials and tribulations? God has a plan for you. You may not see it right away, but God is working. If you can't trace His hand, trust His heart.

Making Excuses 8/24/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | August 24, 2009 19:46
Devotional
When it comes to church, it seems everyone has an excuse. Any preacher will tell you that they have heard it all. I'm too tired to go to church, I worked all week, and let's not forget my favorite. The Dallas Cowboys are playing, and I don't want to miss the kickoff. What are you putting before God in your life?
Scripture Reference
Luke 14:18
"But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.'
Action Point
Put God first in your life. All the other things are just temporary. When you get to heaven, you won't be thinking about the big game, or sleeping in. Instead of cheering and doing the wave, you will be praising God, and lifting your hands in worship.

True Character 8/23/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | August 23, 2009 18:35
Devotional
Personality is who you are when other people are watching. Character is who you are when no one is watching. You can act like a Christian all you want, but the true measure is who you are when you are all alone. Only you and God know if you are saved by the blood of Jesus.
Scripture Reference
Philippians 2:12
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
Action Point
Be a person of character before God. You can fake it before men, but that won't make it before God.

Abide In The Vine 8/22/2009 Devotional
wordinsong | August 22, 2009 20:05
Devotional
There are two kinds of Christians that abide in the vine. There are the ones who bear fruit, and those who do not bear fruit. When a vinedresser takes away a branch that is not bearing fruit, he lifts the branch up to a place where it can bear fruit, and prunes the fruitful branches so that they can bear more fruit.
Scripture Reference
John 15:2
"Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Action Point
Just like the branches, we must abide in the vine in order to bear fruit. When we become unfruitful, we need to pray for the Lord to lift us up. We also need to be willing to let the Lord prune back the things in our life that are hindering our relationship with Him in order for us to bear more fruit
