Thirty Second Devotions

12/14/07 Devotional

Scripture
Luke 2:9
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
Devotional
I can't imagine how the shepherds felt that night. One day we will have the glory of the Lord shining around us. Will we be afraid as the shepherds were, or will we be in awe of His wonderful power.
Action Point
The Bible says 365 times "Do not fear." Stand on His word.

12/13/07 Devotional

wordinsong | December 13, 2007 19:41

Scripture
Luke 2:8
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
Devotional
Jesus did not come to Earth like a king. There were no trumpets anouncing His arrival to the world. Luke tels us that the shepherds were watching over the flock, tending faithfully to the work at hand. It was to these faithful shepherds that God chose to reveal Jesus to first.
Action Point
We as Christians, need to be found humble, and faithful when Jesus comes again.

Scripture
Luke 2:6-7
So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Devotional
It seems to me that if Jesus were to come back today, He would find no room in the inn. Just as when Jesus was born, we seem to be living in a culture that does not have room for Jesus. He is not welcome in our schools, our court rooms, or even on public property.
Action Point
Is there room for Jesus in your heart. Open it up to Him. Let Him in.

12/11/07 Devotional

Scripture
Luke 2:4-5
Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.
Devotional
During the census Mary and Joseph made the long journey from there home in Galilee to Bethlehem. This was a tough journey for for a woman who was ready to give birth. We also see noted that Joseph and Mary were of the house and lineage of David. This fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah 11:1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

12/10/07 Devotional

wordinsong | December 10, 2007 20:41

Scripture
Luke 2:1
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
Devotional
We see God's providence in this verse. What had been prophesied in the Old Testament was being fulfilled. In Micah 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.". The birth of Jesus was prophesied to take place in Bethlehem.
Action Point
Even when things are not going as planed, remember that God is the Master Planer.

12/8/07 Devotional

wordinsong | December 08, 2007 15:02

Scripture
Job 19:25
For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth;
Devotional
Job had been tested by the devil. Through it all he knew that his Redeemer would soon be coming. Though his current circumstances were not good, he knew and believed in the Savior.
Action Point
Know that your Redeemer lives. If you are a believer, He is in you, and you are in Him.

12/7/07 Devotional

wordinsong | December 07, 2007 20:51

Scripture
Isaiah 19:20
And it will be for a sign and for a witness to the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the LORD because of the oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Mighty One, and He will deliver them.
Devotional
We can't get the whole picture of the birth of Jesus by just looking at the 4 gospels. We also need to look at some of the prophecies that were fulfilled. We see Jesus throughout the Old Testament books. From Genesis to Malachi we see Jesus as the Savior, High Priest, Counselor, Kinsman Redeemer, The Lamb of God, the Lion of Judah, and the Mighty One.

12/6/07 Devotional

wordinsong | December 06, 2007 20:16

Scripture
Matthew 1:24-25
Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.
Devotional
All that God requires of us to be used by Him, is that we be obedient. Joseph was a simple carpenter, and yet God used him in a mighty way. We don't have to be well educated or have any special skills. We just have to be willing to let God use us.
Action Point
Allow God to use you. One day you will hear the words "well done thy good and faithful servant."

12/5/07 Devotional

wordinsong | December 05, 2007 18:59

Scripture
Matthew 1:22-23
So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."
Devotional
God with us. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. How humbling it must have been for Him to come in the flesh and to leave His throne in heaven. The prophets told of the Lord's coming. His birth fulfilled the prophecy spoken by the prophet Isaiah. There are over 300 Prophecies concerning the birth of Christ.
