Teach Us To Pray Pt 1 2/26/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | February 26, 2010 19:01

Devotional
Prayer is such a simple thing to do, yet many people do not understand prayer. Even the disciples asked Jesus; "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples." Jesus then gives them a model prayer. The next week or two we will be taking a look at this prayer.

Scripture Reference
Luke 11:1
Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples."
Action Point
Prayer is an important part of a close relationship with the Father. If we are to have that close relationship, we need to take time each day to talk to Him. The most important point to learn about prayer, is that we just need to do it.

His Voice 2/25/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | February 25, 2010 19:49

Devotional
I remember as a child, hearing my dad call my name. There was no mistaking who he was talking to. He didn't have to say it twice. He called me by my name. In the same way, the LORD calls us by name, and when your Father is calling your name, you will know it.

Scripture Reference
Isaiah 43:1
But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel:
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.

Action Point

The Father is calling you by name. The question is whether you are willing to respond. Whether it be a call to salvation, or a call to serve, He is speaking to you.

Restoration 2/24/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | February 24, 2010 20:18

Devotional
As Christians, and ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ, our goal in ministry should always be restoration. No matter what has happened in the past, the LORD is able to restore. Even the vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
Scripture Reference
Joel 2:25
"So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten,
The crawling locust,
The consuming locust,
And the chewing locust,
My great army which I sent among you.
Action Point
Remember that in order for ministry to be effective, there needs to be restoration. This is God's plan for each of us. It all starts with a restored relationship with the Lord.

Talk To The Mountain 2/23/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | February 23, 2010 20:05

Devotional
As I spoke with a friend today, I was reminded of how weak the flesh is, and how powerful God is. Even though he was facing a mountain, his attitude was positive. We all face trials and tribulations in our lives. When we do, we need to look at the mountain that we are facing, and tell it how big God is.
Scripture Reference
2nd Corinthians 13:4
For though He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.
Action Point
Never underestimate the power of God. Even when you are facing a mountain, remember that we have a God that is bigger.  Live your life not in your weakness, but in the power of a mighty God.

Going The Extra Mile 2/22/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | February 22, 2010 19:17

Devotional
During the first century, a Roman solder could compel a person to carry a load for one mile, but Jesus said don't just go one mile, but two. As Christians, going that extra mile with someone will not only give you an opportunity to build a relationship, but to be a wittiness. As you live out your faith through your actions, you can begin to share the gospel message.
Scripture Reference
Matthew 5:41
"And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
Action Point
Let your life be a living testimony, and go the extra mile with someone today. Take the time to build relationships, and to share your relationship with your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Stand On The Word 2/21/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | February 21, 2010 20:04

Devotional
In a world that is always changing, there in one thing that will always stand. Satan has tried since the Garden of Eden to destroy it, and man has tried to remove it from public places. When great buildings crumble, and when we are all long gone, the Word of God will still remain.
Scripture Reference
Proverbs 19:21
There are many plans in a man's heart,
Nevertheless the LORD s counsel--that will stand.
Action Point
Stand on the Word of God. It has stood from the beginning of time, and will stand forever.  It is unchanging, and unwavering. It is tried and true. It's the Word of God.

Outside Your Comfort Zone 2/20/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | February 20, 2010 19:06

Devotional
When the Lord told Ananias to go, he said "Hear I am Lord." The Lord only asked that Ananias be obedient. Sometimes we may question why God asks us to do certain things. God may even ask you to go outside of your comfort zone. Like Ananias, we need to have the confidence that God is in control, and leave the results up to Him.

Scripture Reference
Acts 9:17
And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

Action Point
Don't be afraid to step out of that comfort zone. If God has called you, then he will equip you. Say, hear I am Lord, then be obedient. Follow through, and don't give up just because things aren't going as you had planned. Remember that God is in control, not you.

In The Gap 2/19/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | February 19, 2010 20:19

Devotional
As Christians, we are called to pray for others. Often times we pray for family and friends, and our needs while overlooking the needs of others around us. Too many times we pray self centered prayers. We go to God with our shopping lists, and neglect giving thanks, and praying for those around us.
Scripture Reference
1st Timothy 2:1-2
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

Action Point
Take time today to pray for those who are in authority. Pray for people in need. Pray for churches in your area. Pray for those who don't know Jesus. Remember to give thanks to God for what He has done,

A Different Perspective 2/18/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | February 18, 2010 19:49

Devotional
Life is often times like a roller coaster. It's full of unexpected twists and turns, and it has it's ups and downs. When it seems like your world is spinning out of control, you need to sit back and look at it from a different perspective. Take a time out, and know that God is in control.
Scripture Reference
Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
Action Point
When things are out of your control, know that God is in control. Remember that everything happens for a reason.
Prayer Requests
Please pray for Zach Sobiech who is going in for major surgery on Tuesday to remove a large tumor.

An Open Book 2/17/2010 Devotional

wordinsong | February 17, 2010 19:32

Devotional
If someone was to write a book about you, what would it say? Would your life be a living example of God's love, or more like a dime store novel? Our lives should be an open book that people can read. When they look at the pages of your life, they should be able to see Jesus.

Scripture Reference
2nd Corinthians 3:2
You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men;

Action Point
Let your life be an open book that people can read. As the pages are written, fill them with the love that you have for your Lord and Savior. Show that love towards others you meet. Be a living example that others can read.
