Scripture
Mark 7:9
He said to them, "All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.
Devotional
Jesus was talking to the pharisees, who had many traditions that went against the Mosaic law. Things have not changed in the last 2000 years. Religious leaders are still making there own rules, and ignoring Gods laws.
Action Point
Know what the Word of God says. Do not be led astray by people teaching another gospel.

Devotional
I am going to break from the usual format today. So many times we feel we need to be in the sanctuary to have church. The woman at the well asked Jesus, where are we to worship. My friends, we can worship God any time of the day, and any where. Where two or three are gathered in His name, He will be in the midst.

Scripture
John 6:27
"Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him."

Devotional
We often times get so wrapped up in doing things for the church, that we forget to do things for the Lord. We spend our time doing works that do not bear fruit, while there are people perishing without Jesus.
Action Point
Take time to do works that bear fruit. Serve Jesus.

Scripture
John15:4
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
Devotional
We need to abide in Jesus, as well as allowing Jesus to live in us. We can not bear fruit on our own. It is only through Jesus.
Action Point
The best way to abide in Him, is to attend church regularly, and read the Word of God. Allow Jesus to reign in you.

Scripture
1st Timothy 1:12
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry,
Devotional
Despite what many people say, our Lord is the only one that ordains a true man of God. Paul is making it clear here, that he did not call himself to preach. It is the Lord that enabled him, and called him. Paul was simply being obedient.
Action Point
Is the Lord calling you to service? If so then you need to heed His call. Tell your pastor. Share with others. Be obedient.

1/15/08 Devotional

wordinsong | January 15, 2008 20:00

Scripture
Matthew 18:21-22
Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven."
Devotional
We need to forgive others, just as Christ has forgiven us. Seventy times seven adds up to 490 using a calculator, but using Gods math, it adds up to complete forgiveness. In Matthew 6:14 Jesus teaches "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."
Action Point
Forgive others as you would want God to forgive you.

wordinsong | January 14, 2008 19:39

Scripture
Psalm 19:1
The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Devotional
We can see the glory of God in everything that He has created. The beauty of a flower to the colors of a rainbow, and the wonder of life. God created the Earth and everything in it. We can't look at His creation and deny the existence of God.
Action Point
Look at the world in a new way. See the wonder of God.

1/13/08 Devotional

wordinsong | January 13, 2008 20:24

Scripture
1st John 3:1
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
Devotional
What a privilege to be called children of God. We are His. He rejoices when we rejoice, and He weeps when we weep. It is the relationship that God has with us that binds us together. The relationship starts when we receive Jesus. We then become adopted into the family of God.
Action Point
Work daily on building the relationship with God. Study His word. Go to church. Pray. His love for us will never change. It is our love for Him that needs to be built up.

1/12/08 Devotional

wordinsong | January 12, 2008 20:49

Scripture
1st Corinthians 12:9
And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Devotional
Most people won't share with others when they are in need. It is often in those times when we are weak, that our need for Jesus is greatest. Paul had a thorn in his side, and he asked three times that it be removed. Our trials on earth are nothing compared to the grace that was given to us through Jesus.
Action Point
You may be going through something today. You may have your own thorn in the flesh. Let Jesus use the thorn for His glory.
