Thirty Second Devotions

Called By God 10/13/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 13, 2008 19:23

Devotional
Many of the churches today want preachers with a seminary degree. They seek men who are called and confirmed by men. The fact is we need to have more teachers, and preachers that are called by God, and who have heeded His call.

Scripture Reference
2nd Corinthians 10:17-18
But "he who glories, let him glory in the LORD. '  For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.

Action Point
Seek those who are called by God. Seek men who glory in the Lord, and not in themselves, or their abilities. There is nothing wrong with an education, but God never said go and get a college degree, and then preach the gospel.

No Pew Warmers 10/12/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 12, 2008 19:50

Devotional
Many people forget what the work of the church is. They have a consumer type attitude. They come looking for a church that will give them what they want. The fact is, the work of the church is to prepare others for kingdom service.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 9:38
"Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

Action Point

Pray that God will send those who are willing to serve. Ask God where He would have you serve. God does not call us to be pew warmers, but to be active in service. He doesn't call us to sit, but to go into all the world and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Let's Have A Revival 10/11/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 11, 2008 18:17

Devotional
As a nation, we are seeing a great move of God. There are Christian movies that are making more money in less theaters, then secular movies which are playing in more theaters. We are seeing God working through His people. Lord, revive us again.

Scripture Reference
Psalm 85:6
Will You not revive us again,
That Your people may rejoice in You?

Action Point
We need to keep praying for revival in our homes, cities, nations, and in the world. The most important thing to remember, is that it starts with you.

Knock Knock 10/10/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 10, 2008 19:09

Devotional
Have you ever had someone knock at your door. You look, and you wonder if you should open the door. Often times we will not open it for a stranger, but if it is a person we know, we will open it, and let them in. Is Jesus knocking at the door of your heart today?

Scripture Reference
Revelation 3:20
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

Action Point

Do you know Jesus? Will you let Him in your heart today? It is not about what you do. It's about a relationship with Him, and what He did on the cross for you. Open the door, and let Him in.

I Don't Deserve It 10/9/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 09, 2008 18:24

Devotional
I have to be honest with you. If God gave me what I deserved, I would not be here today. The fact is, none of us would be here. It is only by God's mercy, and grace that I am writing this today. I didn't get what I deserved, but instead got what I didn't deserve.

Scripture Reference
Psalm 86:15
But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.

Action Point
Salvation, is a free gift from God. You don't deserve it, and you can't earn it. God is not willing that any should perish. Please note however, that this free gift is a limited time offer. The second you take your last breath on earth, the offer expires. To redeem this free offer, all you have to do is receive it.

Grounded In The Word 10/8/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 08, 2008 17:21

Devotional
It is not uncommon for people to question, or even challenge your faith and beliefs. People will have ideas that sound good, or even convincing. Hold fast to what is sound doctrine. Search the scriptures. Search out wise council.

Scripture Reference
1st Timothy 6:20
O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge--

Action Point
Guard your heart, and mind against false knowledge. Study the Bible, and seek wisdom from God. Know what you believe, and why you believe these things. Make sure they are grounded firmly in the Word of God.

Doing God's Work 10/7/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 07, 2008 20:19

Devotional
Jesus was talking to His earthly parents in regards to his Heavenly Father. My question today is, are you about your Father's business? We get so caught up in the affairs of this world sometimes that we forget to do God's work. We are so busy making a buck that we neglect the things that make an eternal difference.

Scripture Reference
Luke 2:49
And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?"

Action Point
Do not neglect the work that God has for you to do. Tell others about Jesus. Make an eternal difference.

Feed The Shepherd 10/6/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 06, 2008 18:04

Devotional
Many people forget that the shepherd of the flock needs to be fed also. A pastor needs nourishment if he is to properly lead the congregation. This is why it is so important to take the time and pray for them, help them, and encourage them.

Scripture Reference
1st Timothy 4:6
If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.

Action Point
Take time this week to feed the shepherd. Ask how you can help. The pastor bears a heavy load. Try and make it a lighter load by standing beside them.

Born Again 10/5/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 05, 2008 18:53

Devotional
Just like Nicodemus, many people misunderstand what it means to be born again. The fact is, when you are born again, there is a change that takes place. You are not the same person you were before. You no longer want to do the things you used to, or think the way you used to think.

Scripture Reference
John 3:3
Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Action Point
Ask yourself this one question. Has there been a change in your life, or are you the same old person that thinks the same old way, and does the same old things? A born again believer is a changed person. You will not be perfect, but God is working on it.

Powerful Words 10/4/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 04, 2008 19:15

Devotional
Have you ever considered the power of words? They have the power to build people up, or the power to tear them down. Once they are said, they can't be taken back. What will your words do? Will they be acceptable in His sight?

Scripture Reference
Psalm 19:14
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

Action Point

As Christians, we need to be mindful of what we say. Ask yourself this one question. Would the words that I say be pleasing to God. Always be on guard. Stop the words before they come out of your mouth. Commit your words, thoughts, and actions to the Lord.
