Thirty Second Devotions

Direct Line 7/10/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 10, 2008 20:06

Devotional
When is the last time that you spent intimate time with God. Often times we get so busy doing other things, that we forget. Maybe I will do it later. God will understand that I am just too busy today. Don't neglect the most important things in life. Spend time with God. Just you and Him.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 6:6
But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Action Point
God desires to hear from His children. He is only a prayer away. All you have to do is talk, and He will listen. There is no busy signal, and there will be no machine to say "will you please hold." The direct line is always open.

An Effective Weapon 7/9/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 09, 2008 19:07

Devotional
A weapon is only good if one knows how to use it. I remember one time going to an archery range to shoot a bow and arrow. I couldn't hit the target if my life depended on it. I did not know how to use the weapon. In the same way, many people try to fight spiritual battles with the Word of God only to find out that they don't know how to use it.

Scripture Reference
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Action Point

Study the Word of God. It is only then that you can fight the battles ahead. The Word of God is powerful, but it will not be effective sitting on the shelf. Study it, and learn how to use it effectively.

Prayer Request

wordinsong | July 09, 2008 10:24

Please pray for this family. They are trusting in God, and would apreciate all your prayers.
All prayers are gratefully accepted.  My son is 4 years old now, and has undergone 7 heart surgeries.  His first was at 11 days old.  There have been some tough times these past four years, but God has graciously been with us, and has seen us through each crisis.  I have every confidence He will continue to be with us, and watch over my son.  It is a testimony I thankfully give at every opportunity, and one day my son will give his own testimony of the grace and mercy of God.

Yours in Christ,

Randall

Thunder Storms 7/8/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 08, 2008 19:24

Devotional
As the storms came through our area tonight, I thought of how our lives often times resemble the storms. The winds blow, the lightning strikes, and the thunder rolls. We are often times tossed about like a boat by the things of this world. When we trust in the LORD, He calms the storm.

Scripture Reference
Psalm 107:28-29
Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, So that its waves are still.

Action Point
Life is full of storms. Some last only a few moments, while others seem to last a lifetime. When you trust in the LORD, he will calm the storms, and make the turbulent waters calm. He will give you a peace that surpasses all understanding.

One Up 7/7/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 07, 2008 19:35

Devotional
Do you remember as a child, playing my dad is better than your dad. It would start out with one child bragging about their dad, and each child would try to out do the other. The disciples were trying to out do each other. They wanted to know how was the greatest. Imagine their faces when Jesus said "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all."

Scripture Reference
Mark 9:34-35
But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest. And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all."

Action Point
Often times we get caught up in trying to be the greatest. The fact is, when we are serving others, instead of ourselves, people will see us at our best. Find Joy in serving others. Take the time to put others first. It is only then that you will find true greatness.

The Trinity 7/6/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 06, 2008 19:49

Devotional
Studies have shown that many people believe that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are separate. They reject the idea of the Trinity. Often times we need to let the scripture do the talking. It isn't what man has declared. It is what the Word of God declares through the scriptures. These three are one.

Scripture Reference
1st John 5:7
For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

Action Point
We need to look to the scriptures when we have a question. The Word of God is true. One of the things that God can not do is lie. Man is capable of error, but God is perfect.

Snow Forts 7/5/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 05, 2008 19:53

Devotional
I remember as a child up in Minnesota, how we would build snow forts, and have snow ball fights. We knew that if we stayed in the snow forts, we would be safe from the snow balls that were being thrown at us. The minute we left the protection of the fort, we would surly get hit. If we abide in the LORD, then we are in a safe place.

Scripture Reference
Nahum 1:7
The LORD is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.

Action Point
The LORD knows those who trust Him. He provides a safe place for us to go. When we are in Him, the devil may attack us, but we are protected. Abide in Him, and He will protect you.

Become One 7/4/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 04, 2008 21:28

Devotional
How can two separate people become one? It is the same way that we are made a part of God's family. We are grafted in. When the two are married, they are joined together. The longer they are together, the stronger that bond becomes. They grow together, and they both bear fruit together.

Scripture Reference
Mark 10:8
'and the two shall become one flesh'; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.

Action Point
The marriage is a picture of God's love for us. Just as a husband, and wife are joined in marriage, we are to be joined to the body of Christ. We are in Christ, and He is in us.

Be A Desciple 7/3/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 03, 2008 19:31

Devotional
According to Webster's dictonary, the word desciple means one who accepts and helps to spread the teachings of another. You can not be a true desciple of Jesus without knowing the Word of God. You can't teach someone else what you do not know.

Scripture Reference
John 8:31
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

Action Point
Spend time in the Word daily. Share what you have learned with others. Jesus told His desciples to go and make desciples of all nations. It all starts with you.

Test Yourselves 7/2/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | July 02, 2008 19:23

Devotional
Many people are coerced into making confessions of faith. They say the words, but they don't mean it. They acknowledged Jesus in their minds, but their hearts are still set on the things of this world. We need to examine ourselves. Do you know for sure that Jesus is living in you?

Scripture Reference
2nd Corinthians  13:5
Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?--unless indeed you are disqualified.

Action Point
Examine yourself. Have you received Jesus in your heart? Can you say with absolute certainty that you have given your life to Jesus? If you have never received Jesus in your heart, you have not received the free gift of salvation.
