Thirty Second Devotions

Baptism That Saves 10/3/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 03, 2008 19:36

Devotional
Do you have to be baptized to be saved? The answer is yes, and no. There is only one baptism that saves, and that is the baptism by the Holy Spirit. The repentant thief on the cross was not baptized in water when he received Jesus, yet Jesus said to the thief, "today you will be with me in paradise."

Scripture Reference
Mark 16:16
"He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

Action Point
Do not trust in water baptism for salvation. If you are baptized, and do not believe, you will only come up a wet sinner. You must first believe, and then you will receive the baptism by the Holy Spirit instantaneously.

Child Of God 10/2/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 02, 2008 18:21

Devotional
What a privilege to be called child of God. As Christians, we are His children. Like a father, He delights in our relationship with Him. It is the relationship that God has with us that binds us together. The relationship starts when we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. We then become adopted into the family of God.

Scripture Reference
1st John 3:1
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

Action Point
Work daily on building the relationship with God. Study His word. Go to church. Pray. His love for us will never change. It is our love for Him that needs to be built up.

Faith In Action 10/1/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | October 01, 2008 19:30

Devotional
We know that we are not saved by our works. Our works are evidence of our salvation. If I say I love my wife, and do not show it, chances are I don't love her. If I kiss her every day, and make her feel important, that is evidence that I love her. If I love God, then works will be evident in my life, as a result.

Scripture Reference
James 2:22
Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?

Action Point
Take time today, and show God know how much you love Him. Put your faith into action. Share the gospel, help a neighbor, or just spend some time in prayer, thanking Him for His goodness.

The Law 9/30/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | September 30, 2008 17:55

Devotional
What is the purpose of the Law? We are not saved by it, and we can't keep it. The fact is the law leads to condemnation, and death. The fact is that we can not make it to heaven on our good works. It is impossible. The purpose of the law, is to lead us to Jesus, who is the only way to heaven.

Scripture Reference

Galatians 3:24
the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Action Point
It is only through faith in Jesus Christ, that we can enter into heaven. If you are trusting in your works to get you into heaven, then you will never make it. Trust In Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior.

Counting Stars 9/29/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | September 29, 2008 18:39

Devotional
Have you ever laid on the ground on a clear summer night and tried counting the stars? It is almost impossible. There are about 8000 stars that are visible to the naked eye, approximately 400 billion stars in the milky way, and there are over 200 billion galaxies. Wow, we serve an awesome God.

Scripture Reference
Psalm 147:4
He counts the number of the stars;
He calls them all by name.

Action Point
Think of how wonderful God is. Even greater than the number of stars, is the great love that He has for you. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

Are You Hungry 9/28/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | September 28, 2008 17:33

Devotional
The one thing that I have learned about grocery shopping, is that you never go when you are hungry. When I am not hungry, I look at the food, and say "I don't need that!" When I am hungry, I buy out half the store. In the same way, we need to have a hunger for God, and His righteousness.

Scripture Reference
Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Action Point

Get hungry and thirsty for God. When we are hungry, we will seek Him more diligently, and will need to get filled.

Getting Better With Age 9/27/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | September 27, 2008 19:24

Devotional
Let's face it, none of us are getting any younger. The older we get the more our muscles ache, and our joints hurt. It is tough getting older. The good thing is, that the older we get, the closer our relationship with Jesus grows. Our body may be getting old, but our faith is getting stronger.

Scripture Reference
2nd Corinthians 4:16
Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

Action Point
Remember that faith gets stronger through the years. Even though the body may be deteriorating, our faith will flourish.

Fire Proof Your Marriage 9/26/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | September 26, 2008 20:19

Devotional
As my wife and I watched the movie Fire Proof at the theater, I thought of how we are to love our wives. As marriage is a picture of Christ and the church, we are to have an unconditional, sacrificial, and unending love for our wives.

Scripture Reference
Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

Action Point
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church. Let your marriage be a picture of Christ and the church. Tell her how much you love her, and show that love to her every day. You will grow closer to Christ, and your wives each day.

Just a quick note... Fire Proof is an excellent movie. There wasn't a dry eye in the theater at the end of the movie.

That Old Tree 9/25/2008 Devotional

wordinsong | September 25, 2008 18:56

Devotional
I remember a tree in our yard growing up. At one time it was small enough for me to jump over. It now stands taller than the house. That tree has survived wind, hail, flooding, drought, and even my children. The reason that it stands tall today, is that its roots are firmly planted in the soil. In the same way, our faith needs to be firmly rooted in Jesus.

Scripture Reference
Colossians 2:6-7
As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

Action Point
Grow strong in the Lord. Like that old tree, you will be able to withstand the storms. Your roots will not only help you stand firm, but they will nourish you and supply the food it takes for you to grow stronger in your faith.
